From the moment he was brought home from the pound in 2012, Dexter filled our lives with love, laughter, and purpose. For so many years, he kept us moving and adventuring—long before “getting your steps in” was trendy.

Dex had a gift for reading the room and guiding us through life’s highs and lows. He challenged us to be better, love deeply, stay on a schedule and always see the best in people. His patience with the children and other animals in his life was extraordinary.

One of our favorite memories, and there were many, was taking him to Harvest Moon Music Festival—he thrived in the festivities, socializing with whoever paid him attention. After enjoying a full day of music and friends, he would call it a night when he had enough and put himself swiftly to bed in the tent. A life lesson that would take his dads a few more years to grasp.

We always joked he was “7 forever,” because of his endless joy and pep in his step. Over the last several months, he let us know he was ready to rest. He will always be a legend in this house and to the people lucky enough to have had eye contact with him - his spirit will stay with everyone who knew him.
