Monty

2010 - 2026

Monty was a very special cat to both me and my husband.  This guy could actually cat-talk to you and he understood everything we said to him.  His love was endless.

Monty had a tough start in life and unfortunately it also ended that way.

I called Monty my north-end scoop.  He spent his first couple years living in the north-end and crawling through a broken window, scavenging for food.  I got involved in his life when he was in a very terrible fight, or tortured, or whatever.  He crawled back to his home and my son-in-law found him, in bad shape.  Not knowing what to do, he called me to help.  Monty's claw was ripped out, there were stone pebbles imbedded into his skin, many cuts, scrapes, you name it, and he generally wasn't feeling well.

We nursed him back to health thanks to strong antibiotics however we had to battle with the vets to get this.  Twice he was taken to different vets and both times each vet suggested putting him down.  He also had feline leukemia so vets said maybe two years he would live.  He lived 14 more years with us.

Monty was so willing to let me do whatever I needed to do to fix him.  I could pick the embedded stones out of his legs, give him his medication, wash the wounds, you name it.  He was a fighter and wanted to live.  He knew I was helping him.

Then one day, he was out on the street with no home anymore.  I went to where he was living and called for him.  Within a few minutes, he came running to me.  I scooped him up so fast, got into the car and back to our home we went, to share with our family of two other dogs, living on 1.7 acres and 14 more years.

Monty loved his life.  He quickly learned that he could get outside through the doggy doors and there was no stopping him.  But he always was there in the morning, mounted on his cat-stand waiting for food.  With us, he was living the best of both worlds.  He was "Born Free" with all the amenities of a good healthy life.

A couple of times, he did tangle with some wild-life or stray cats and again we would transport him to the vet to bring him back to good health.

Then on May 26th, 2026, his life ended.  He wasn't there for his morning meal.  My husband said he wasn't there to walk to the street for the paper either, so we went looking for him.

Monty managed to crawl back to our front-lawn and this is where we found him, but he was no longer coming back to us.  He was killed by what we believe to be a coyote.

We were blessed with14 years of a beautiful life with him.  We gave him everything and he gave back everything in love.

Monty, we will always look for you, we will never stop loving you.  Your catnip garden has been turned into your memorial plot.  Your catnip is still there and most of your ashes will rest there as well as some being spread over the rocks you loved to climb.

Rest in Peace Precious One.
